Old carpet glue turns blue when sanded

So we are planning on painting our stairs and we've already ripped out the 25 year old carpet that was there. There is some left over glue on the wood that turns blue and spreads when sanded. Just wondering if there is any kind of stripper that will make this stuff easier to get off. Any help is appreciated.

You try glue and adhesive removers or go to a epoxy remover if the glue remover doesn't work
