How did you anchor the post to the capstone?

I am looking into doing the same thing, but am not sure about how to cover the pillar with a capstone; do I make a hole for it, or do I anchor directly to the capstone?

    Those posts go directly down to a pile on the ground. The cultured stone was hung off a framed box that was built around the post then capped off. Otherwise that roof would fall off the house due to lack of proper support.
