Can I go dark...really dark for a front room with stained wood?

I love Navy. I'm thinking of going navy with my tan slip covered chairs...perhaps a grasscloth or paint. I figure my couches are so light, it would be okay to go darker on the walls.

Thoughts? This putrid green needs to go ASAP!

The blue slipcover would make the room darker.

How much light from windows do you have? Do you have a budget that allows for adding a lot of lights? Will you avoid the room if it is dark? Do you plan on reading in this room or working in any way that requires excellent light?Pick a piece of art you love first, then go from there. If you love blue, try a lighter shade with a touch of grey. Choose curtains that complement your art. Slipcover your pillows to work with the art and curtains.

Not much light being that the we have large trees in the front of the house.

It's more of a reading, relaxing kind of room. Casual and inviting.

Here are some colors that I like, maybe go with a lighter blue is the way to go.

Here are some textured wallpapers by thibault that I like.

The adjacent dining room, I've picked an Ikat pattern to go above my chair rail. (Still figuring about the bottom choice).

Thoughts?

My LR is dark ( teal walls and dark brown furniture ) I love it. It feels cool in the summer and warm and cozy in the winter. "bright" isn't always the "best". Sometimes it is just plain the colors you love even if the lighting you are given isn't the "best" and "brightest".

How about these curtains and painting a SW Kilim beige with some red accents?

I think the ikat is great. I am not sure i would put it on the walls. I think it would make fabulous curtains or pillows. Pick the lightest blue from the ikat for the walls. Consider only using one shade above and below the chair rail. If you use two shades, use the darker one below.
