How to decorate around this fabric?

I had some drapes made from this duralee fabric for my 7 year old sons room. Everything else is a blank canvas, aside from an Ethan Allen trundle bed in a chestnut finish. What paint should I go with? Bedding? Rug? Can and should I mix patterns or should I use solids for the rest of the room since the curtains are so Art Deco?

For a child's room, you could easily pick a color from the fabric for the walls. Do u have more of the fabric to use for bed pillows?

I could easily get more fabric. I was considering BM brookside moss for a wall color.

You can definitely mix patterns in a child's room.
Think about a soft khaki paint to add a calming element to the room. You can then use the blues for bedding and accents. You didn't say what your son's interests are but you can bring those into the room through art.

I think you have to be careful to not go too olive with the wall color with the very cool blues in the fabric. I think a gold based khaki will be a better compliment.

Your question just reminded me of a picture I found (and loved) the other day! I love the idea of mixing prints in your son's room-children's rooms can get away with being more playful and crazy than other rooms. As long as you match one of the shades in the fabric, it should come together really well. Just make sure you stay away from using the bright tones too much-it can make sleep a little more difficult.

Great suggestions, all! If I were to steer away from a green paint, which gold or blue would you suggest specifically?

Paint the room the darker blue from fabric. Add bedding in the green from fabric. And the med blue for sheets. It has nautical feel to it. Add art in white frames with sail boats over bed. On another wall add a big poster, of a battleship 1940 s. or shelves with boats on it. A white board with pegs in it hung low for him to hang back pack etc. a mirror that looks like a port hole over head of bed. Love the fabric.

Loving so many of the ideas above, just had to put together a visual of possibilities. Note that the paint color is a shade or two up from your navy.

Yes, love the above picture, but not so sure about the bedspread, to much for me personally, but the rest is great. I agree with getting more fabric and doing shams and a tailored bedskirt. I tend to avoid white in comforters for boys, they will stain them or get them dirty way too fast. A deeper color is better in my opinion.

You can take your fabric to any paint store lowes, Home Depot. They will match your paint to any color you want. I like the darker blue for walls then the green shade for bedding. I ve done it so many times it works.

I would keep, bedding solid, can make pillows out of fabric. Small room don't want to over load it.

A light grey/blue combo would also work well on the walls. Perhaps a horizontal stripe? I would recommend incorporating one other bold design choice into the room and then sticking with solids or very small prints. Perhaps a bold paint treatment or a rug that serves as a focal point.

You could easily pick a solid from this fabric. But you could since its a boys room mix a pattern. Like polka dot or a regular stripe. It could look fun mixing striped with chevron. Don't be afraid to mix patterns!

Pick a colour out of it and paint the wall I like the blue ,no more patterns though you have plenty ,now its time for plain. You can incorporate all of them but only one colour in them.

Hi, Good strong pattern. Sit down with the boys show them some of the excellent ideas that have been suggested by the designers. Pull the boys into the discussion. Let them suggest ideas. Make the room about their interests, toys, and collections. I hope this will help them be motivated to keep their space in order. Happy colors can create a happy place.

Wow, I've already posted one of these colors today, but these are perfect for this fabric and the wood of bed.

I like the suggestions of picking out the beige from the fabric for wall color. Accents in solid dark blues would complement nicely.

Behr Exhibition Khaki is the color you should go with. I would add a coastal theme with the fabric...perhaps sail boats or sea life pillows and go with solids for bedding and rug.
