Painted Window Trim

kimberlyAugust 16, 2013
Moved into our house a month ago and decided to have outside painted. It was white and looked to drastic next to our brick. The painters did not paint inside the window panes. I think it's called "returns." Since our house is no longer white and we have no screens I think it looks completely unfinished. Painter said they don't paint that area?
should "returns" be painted?
Should "returns" not be painted?

Looks like this is a double hung window, therefore the inside tracks should not be painted.

Unfortunately, I feel the painters are correct n this case because the returns are vinyl - either chip off when windows opened / closed or jam when you try. Plus you have taken a close up photo from the side. Do yourself a favour and go to the street and take a photo too. I find we as the public ask for jobs to be done and we aren't "the experts" so we sometimes get sidelined by what the results end up looking like.

Only if the screens aren't being used, then once you get money just change out the windows, dirt and spiders will get in to the nooks and crannies

Here is another view of the windows. From the street (front of house) the white cannot be seen. Although in the back it's very obvious bc we have 6 windows in a row right in front of our pool.

I think you have a couple of options.
1. Paint it and not be able to open your windows.
2. Don't paint it, deal with the eye sore that is much worse to you than anyone else.
3. Have the windows repainted a different color. I think the reason you don't like it is the cream fights with the white. Maybe a light grey would coordinate better?
4. Replace the windows as your finances will allow in cream - start with the ones on the back of the house that bother you.

Looks to me as a very poor job by your painters.
