The Dinning Room has a door leading to a staircase. What do you suggest? This door looks so weird in that room. HELP!

Can you simply remove the door to expose the stairs or is it a safety issue? I think the open doorway to the stairs would look better. I have also seen an amazing rustic door that hangs from wall at the top & slides. If I can figure out how to get the link on here I will :0)

I'm not sure if its a safety issue. A little confused as to why the original owners did this. Also the stairs lead to an unfinished room. Thank you for your suggestion I like your idea hopefully you can download a pic of the doors.

The door looks odd because the white paint is catching the eye. If the door is to remain, door and wall should be painted the same color. You will soon see it disappear. Good luck!

I bet you won't notice it nearly much once your furniture is in. If it still bothers you, I love Candice Olsen's idea of hanging framed art right on the door.

Make white one of your accent colors as it is very striking with the deeper wall color. Have white in an area rug and in the wall art and on the buffet and table. Embrace the door.......and actually I think it is nice to be able to shut a door to the upstairs.

The paint color is lovely - just paint the door to match.

I'd get the furniture in, then see what you think. In addition, I might look for a biggish piece of art, with a white frame that mimics the molding so as to mitigate the visual of the door. I'd look for something right-sized so I could hang it having the top of the frame at the same height as the door molding.

If painting it the same as the walls does not work for you you could go with a hidden door. Secret agent style.

I don't mind it, as it gives a nice contrast, as the windows do also. You could try painting the two door panels the same colour as the walls? I'm not sure if that would look better or worse without trying it.

Please measure that chair rail, it appears higher on the left wall than the others and it is too low for a chair rail. Either add moulding detail to the bottom wall or take it out. Painting the door the same as the wall including the trim will erase the door issue.

you could have a mural on that wall that is continuous blending the door right in it ,I will take a look to see if I find something to give you a better idea .

Let's say that this is the door http://www.laparliere.com/images/murals/door1.jpg
