New windows coming... need to figure out window treatments
chauncycayAugust 24, 2013
We're finally getting new windows (woo hoo!) and haven't thought beyond the "came with the house" old metal blinds. Once we take those down, they're not going back up; so we need to figure out blinds | curtains, both?

Any ideas? We don't want to overpower the art, wing chairs in the photo ignore, fabric will be changed. The barn wood table is staying in front of the window, it's our entry way holds everything going in and out place.

Black and white geometric is what I'm thinking.
Maybe even blinds and curtains.
Something we could leave partially open for light but privacy?
My husband's pretty adamant on curtains that don't get near the floor for dog hair collection reasons. Practical, but I can't find *any* pics of non-floor length curtains in a living room.
We're very casual though so it makes sense.

I'm attaching a pic of the adjacent area - all open since we've taken down walls.
It's a 1961 Texas limestone ranch with dark gray concrete floors. I'd call our style vintage eclectic? or urban ranch?

I am not sure I would go draperies at all if you don't want them going down to the floor. Have you thought about pleated shades (or shutters) with a scarf to soften the edges?

I would just do bamboo shades. They look great against a green wall. Not fussy--which is what I like.

I wouldn't add another pattern, definitely, to compete with the patterns in your furniture. Would be too busy.

We'd suggest roman shades, this will give you the soft look and feel of drapery, but not look unfinished if it stops before the floor. There are also many pattern and color options, so that you can find just what speaks to you. You can browse here and see if this is the right look. http://www.blindsgalore.com/products.asp?id=roman-shades/window-shades/
