Need help with dinette area in new home.
Buyers Remorse
August 24, 2013 in Design Dilemma
1st pic: The dinette area in the model home. We will not have the hutch, as it appears in the pic.
2nd pic: Amish farm table that I thought 'might' be a good idea.
Dinette area is 10x11.
We are looking for a quick functional space that our family could eat breakfast/lunch and quick meals.

What about a square table?

Hard to say without knowing table dimensions, style of the rest of house and size of family, but as a general guide, add a min. of 2' to the size of table for chair movement to determine if it will fit in your space.

Square table could work. Farm table=bad idea? Family of 4 - 2 small children.

Round table to offset all those pointy angles on the peninsula or island. Natural and safe movement around it. Can always shift chairs closer to help kids or to add another chair.

This is always going to be the path between kitchen and dining - why not put a flannel lined vinyl cloth on the dining table and start a family tradition - maybe use bar stools / widen top stone with big corbels and add counter stools. Ask them to deepen the top on the island wall to total 14" deep - that could work better for you.

Or try a long banquette seat there - ballard sells them in modules you can link to fill the wall and put a small ish round table that can crank up or down from coffee table height to dining height - home decorators sells one
