Any ideas for the living room?

We have a small living room which is adjacent to a small dining area and kitchen. It has a fireplace with the tv recessed above it. I've recently added the rug, but feel it all looks a bit bland - does anyone have any ideas on how to bring it to life? The rest of the house (a plain 1960's weatherboard) is fairly neutral too - dark floors, off white walls and beige carpet.

Looks very nice as is! I'd just rotate the chair and face the sofa a bit, then schooch the coffee table more centered with the space. I like your style! For fun, you could add ONE pop of bright color toss pillow for a surprise. Or, just leave as it is.

Here is an example of sort of what I mean. No color, except ONE pop in any color you love.

It is interesting but I would love to change the curtains to black to tie in the art and then as Darcy suggested, throw in a pop of colour. I agree that the chair needs to swing around towards the sofa and the coffee table needs to come towards the furniture more.

I like Karin's black curtains idea. Very dramatic and will tie in with the art.

Karin's idea to go black with the curtains would look great with the existing set up of your living room. Is that art on the left wall? If so, maybe that could stay but the added color can be introduced with either a new chandelier, throw or rug.

Thanks for the ideas - I hadn't thought to change the curtains, but Karin's idea to change them to black could look great. I think a new chandelier might be in order too. Thanks!

Great space, love the room.. Have you ever considered painting the ceiling in a fun, vibrant color? Might be just the thing you need to brighten up the space.

If you are in the market to look for new furniture pieces, be sure to check out www.bryght.com, they have stylish, modern pieces without the markup.

Happy Decorating!
