Old Record Player/TV Stand

Travis DavidAugust 29, 2013
My sister picked up this old record player from the 1940's, and while the shape and size are perfect for a new tv cabinet-we are unsure of how to redo the rest of it. This piece will be in her living room, which has dark wood molding and darker wood floors. Her style is more traditional, and there are a few antique pieces in the house, and that style is kind of prominent.
There are pops of a rich red, but that doesn't have to be incorporated on here-just in case that color is changed in the future.
Also, any ideas on where to put the dvd/blu-ray player would be helpful!
Thanks!

If the record player doesn't work, you can buy a lift system to raise and lower the TV out of the furniture. Try www.tvlift.com to purchase the mechanism.

What a beautiful piece! If the record player no longer works, you may be able to house components in there instead. I bet a talented carpenter could turn the speaker portions into doors and vent the back.

Oh! I forgot to put that in there-the record portion does work and they are keeping it for now!

We bought a similar old hi-if at a garage sale years ago and painted it Behr Cotton Knit, which is a very warm vanilla white. With the colors and style you describe in your sisters home, I think a similar color would look good here. You won't believe what a transformation will take place once it is painted. We spray painted, btw - did it ourselves, but you could have it professionally done. We took the "guts" out of it also and for a time had some speakers and a pre-amp in there, but now it just holds a TV on top. I don't think there would be a practical way to get your DVD player in there because you need to be able to access it.
