Need help with what colour to use on the front steps & door ?

Hi,

This is a 107 year old home, it faces east and I would appreciate any ideas to improve curb appeal.
Thanks, Julia

Why do the steps hang over each riser so far? It looks kind of strange. It looks kind of amateurish, and not in keeping with the age of your home, nor like an update to an old home. I think you should replace the tops to match the length of the stairs currently or get new stairs entirely that go across the whole front. Look in the houzz ideabooks for inspiration.

I think that you could choose better house numbers that would be more in keeping with the age of the house or something more artistic. These are neither, and are difficult to read from the street I bet. Maybe move them to the right of the steps on the front or get a placque type that shows up better above the mailbox.

I'd go navy blue for the door and a dark grey for the steps. Have fun!

Love that blue on the first door! And yes, I think katie is right about grey steps!

I see what you mean about the stairs, I could not put my finger on it but they did not seem quite right.

I also think a tree would look great on the left.

This is a great opportunity to add stairs and possibly an expanded porch more in keeping with the style and period of your house.

Charming house! If you want a pop of color, you could do a red, orange, or yellow door. I would nit draw attention to the stairs, but would keep them the same color as the trim or body of house. I love an old fashioned flower garden in front of an historic home: roses, delphiniums, phlox, daisies. For something easier, you could install a fountain to the left of the stairs. That would also be in keeping with the era of your home.
