Need help with a backsplash...

I am trying to work with what is already in the house, like my kitchen, but I dislike our counter tops. Any ideas for a back splash that will work with it?

Tin ceiling in copper could look really cool.

Go out of your comfort zone! How about a blue tile like this, and the grout the "copper" color from the counter. That would be pretty!

HI -- Have the 4 inch strip removed before you retile the backsplash . I think you need a black mirror or glass backsplash that would go with the counter tops . Don't pick anything to go with that color that's showing in the stone .Looks like a pink . I'm thinking that's what your not liking . Your cabinets look a little higher than the norm -- you could have a trim added to the under side of the cabinets and have task lighting installed . That will help with the dark counters . The standard height from counter to bottom of cabinet is 18 inches.

if you do a creamy subway, don't do a shade of white.
do alabaster.

and is it the fact that the counters are dark, or the pieces of copper (?) colored flecks?
because pulling out the copper would be easy to do with some accent tiles in copper, but if that's not what you like, maybe try solid black accents, it'll mute the copper a little.

I don't know if the house tends to be a bit modern and glassy or textured and warm in ambience but I could see a tumbled tile with creams, grays and terracotta and have cranberry in a glass mosaic accent set in the tumbled tile. I think cranberry would punch both those tickets either way. I like Lefty47 idea of task lighting for sure! You'll be so glad you did! I'd go with the LED lighting. I have older halogens and they do get hot and I admit, I worry about my cabinets. The cranberry would work well with copper.

I think that maybe a little too daring, we live in a 1920's brick bungalow and not sure if that will flow with the house. But I love the idea.

Tan brown granite is crazy enough on it's own.. something simple would be best.. I vote copper tile as mentioned above.

yup.. the name of the granite is tan brown.. If you are going to do a tile splash pop the 4" off.. It is only siliconed on.
