I see simple brushed nickel hardware with a similar round mirror above.

I have the same type of furniture in storage and am debating on selling or keeping. I was going to change the hardware but when I removed one the wood was much lighter in the exact shape of the hardware. I would have to buy huge hardware to cover this. Take one off before you buy new hardware and see if you have the same issue.

the drawers look good, two holes in each, see photo of the doors, they have some outlines of the current hardware. Any ideas for good looking hardware?

No suggestions for hardware, but just want to say how SMART you are to do this sort of an upgrade to your look! You will be soooooo happy with how this changes your room.

Do you NEED a mirror over the dresser? IF NOT, another updated look would be to put art there instead and tie in some accent colors. Just be sure it is the right size and hung low enough. Horizontal would be best, of course, with the length of your dresser.

Oh! I changed handles on kitchen cupboards and the outlines disappear with a little polish.

Wondering if you take off the hardware and spray paint on a different finish... you might like the look and no worries about holes or different finishes. Plus, saves money.

I agree about brushed nickel hardware. To help hide the subtle outline of the old hardware, try a little shoe polish in a similar color then buff. I do it all the time to hide nicks or scratches in my furniture. As for a mirror, I think a frameless one would look pretty and fresh. There are many shapes to choose from, just depends on your preference. I think you will be very happy with the dramatic impact these little changes will make.

Your lucky your wood looks fine underneath. Mine isn't something I can wipe off. I also tried the suggestion above and painted the hardware a bronze. It toned the gold down some. I was going to do a dark hardware because I didn't want the contrast. Love to see what you decide.

Would it suit your style to paint the furniture? http://pinterest.com/pin/38210296810170687/
