Any ideas for updating this space without spending a lot of money

I decorate using an old world flare. Feel like I need an update. Any ideas for incorporating mid century modern or industrial decor?

Hi...I don't think MCM furniture would get along with your traditional/old world flare. Without spending a lot of money, one way to change to the different look you want is to remove any scroll type items (like the piece above the art and quilt rack) and scones by the FP art). "Less fussy" like removing the coffee table cloth as well. Changing to a more transitional style by mixing abstract with your current art will give the room a fresher look. A new, contemporary chandelier over the dining table (like this one) will be an instant new feel to the space.

PS...changing out lamp shades to square or drum instead of the bell shape will switch the lamps from traditional to transitional. Have fun! Small changes will make a big difference.

I agree with the above poster. Also, maybe you could remove the runner in front of your bombay chest and I cannot really tell what is behind your leather chair, but possibly put both print chairs across from your sofa and the leather chair across from your fireplace. Lighter draperies might give your room a different feel. Good luck.

I would consider a larger rug in LR to unify the space. Since it seems as everything is in the brown range I could see a graphic pop on this rug to bring some life to the existing space.
