Sofa placement in living room!

Does layout #1 or #2 look better in terms of the sofa placement and all over appearance of the living room? I just moved in, so please excuse the empty walls.

Please share your opinion!

Layout #1 - first 2 photos
Layout #2 - last 2 photos

The last two....cozier. The first two look like a waiting room.

HI there! Congratulations on your new place. I agree...Layout #2 works better in the space based on the photos. It is friendlier and better for conversation. Which one do YOU like better?

I still like #2. And I know the 'real pros' do not like furniture up against a wall, but sometimes I think there is no other choice. So having said that, I would move the sofa to the wall and put the sofa table behind the love seat.

The "L" is best but I'd remove the sofa table and place it on the empty wall opposite the seating with a nice piece of art above it and another on the wall behind the sofa. This adjustment should center the loveseat on the window. Please replace the vertical blinds with drapes to match those in the adjoining room. Consider adding an arc floor lamp in the corner left of the TV to arch over the coffee tables.

Your TV is out of balance with the wall. To fix this, remove the sofa table from behind the couch and push couch against the wall. This moves your center of the room and allows you to center the TV on that wall. L shape your second couch and put the sofa table behind that one for art and a lamp. Don't put the little tables next to that sofa, as it cuts your travel path to the door/window. You will now have a good layout for additional lighting, window panels and your wall art.

Thank you all for your input!!

@decoenthusiaste: I will definitely replace the vertical blinds.

@Decoenthusiaste and @pegonia: In terms of the sofa table: does it look bad behind the sofa? What if I get another console table for the empty wall to center the love seat and leave the sofa table behind the sofa? My concern is the uneven step in the wall behind the sofa....I've tried different things and I feel like the sofa table + lamp + books + (eventually art) will kind of camouflage that step in the wall. What do you think?

As far as I can tell, you can ignore the step behind the sofa. I personally am not a fan of sofa tables between the wall and the sofa.....but, it could just be me!

The sofa table pushes your sofa too far into the room. It really will look better if it is removed.
