Wall color for dining room w/dark woodwork and floors
September 13, 2013 in Design Dilemma
I just moved in & my Dining Room is too dark. Any suggestions for making it happier? The green walls are too dark with the stained woodwork & stone floors.

Rug is lovely. Work with it, lighten the walls and the woodwork and find a piece of art to bring the color of the rug onto the walls. A new chandy is a must.

I think your stone floor is beautiful and I would take the rug away I agree about changing the light fixture and add artwork for interest. The shutters on the windows and walls could both be painted. Spray paint the shutters two shades lighter or darker than the wall. Good luck, it's a lovely room.

Ben Moore Picket fence CSP 370, in aura base matte, on the walls (coming off darker in the picture than it is)
trim ben moore white dove in semi-gloss
ceiling in ben moore white dove at 50% in flat
would cheer it up along with a fun light and some interesting art.

My dining room is very similar, but with wood floors. I finally opted for a warm, creamy yellow. I also placed chandelier shades on my light fixtures, which softens the light considerably.
