Need help with my wardrobe
September 16, 2013 in Design Dilemma
Hi, I have this old 80s style wardrobe and I'm trying to avoid throwing it out by stripping or repainting it. I'd be grateful for any ideas as to how to make it look good or feel free to tell me it's a lost cause.....

Paint it a pretty accent color and get longer handles for a totally new look.

Thanks Darzy, it's a solid piece of furniture but in its current state so very ugly. I've never tried anything like this before so your suggestion is appreciated.

Check out this discussion.
Look at first pictures and then look near the end of discussion for finished look.

Paint yours! Shellac primer and then paint. Or look at chalk paint.
Lots of info online by goggling topic.

Painting the wardrobe would be a great idea especially if the rest of the furniture in the room is painted as well.

I used Annie Sloan paints to repaint a 1950's knotty pine dining set and it came out great! No striping or sanding necessary - just clean it, paint it and then wax it. The paint is expensive but a little goes a long long way.

My vote is for chalk paint too. No striping or prep. You'll be so proud of yourself. Post an "after" picture please.
Great job on your buffet Norma! Looks beautiful!

I personally would paint it white and sand it down to give it an old antique look, you can add nice knobs that are black or even crystal knobs to add some flavour! You could also just paint it straight black or white and add crystal knobs. It would look fabulous!
