Recycle old kitchen cabinets or buy new?
September 24, 2013 in Design Dilemma
My house was built in 1890 and I have built in, not quite perfect, solid wood kitchen cabinets, probably 50 years old, painted a beautiful yellow (Ben Moore wheatfield). I'm about to remodel my kitchen, mainly to improve workspace, and wondering if I should try and reuse them or go with new cabinets. All I see on this website are kitchens w new, generic looking cabinets, and while beautiful, I really LOVE my yellow cabinets. Any thoughts?

If you love them, and they are in good shape, keep them by all means. They will give your kitchen personality.

I myself am a big fan of yellow cabinets, but in my personal opinion, 50 year old cabinets seem VERY old and likely need to be replaced, especially to update your workspace and make it more functional, since 1960s kitchens were used so differently than today's kitchens. I would take this opportunity to bring your 1890s home to its full glory- and just update the kitchen with new yellow cabinets- here are some ideas
