Awkward siding on Cape Cod style house

Has anyone ever seen a design like this? Assuming there is no brick under the 4+ rows of aluminum siding, how would you make more curb appeal. Pictures GREATLY appreciated! Thanks for any opinions.

I would try to find pics of the house as it was originally, and bring it back. Barring that, something with texture, like shakes, may add interest.

I believe it is original to the house built in 1950. I was thinking shakes on the 4 strips and domers and possibly board and batten on the sides of the peaks of the house where there is also currently siding.
