new exterior paint...thoughts?
September 29, 2013 in Before & After
I'm hoping that I did this 100+ year old house justice. I'm happy, but I'm getting the impression that others aren't fond of the paint choices. Good, Bad or Ugly...I can take it. Thanks!

Big improvement I think - now the paint tone is in harmony with the brick, and the pale tan helps the eye make the jump to the white windows in the back. Only comment I'd have is to take it one step further in the front. You have a historic looking house.

Get a new simpler screen door, paint the screen and the front door a glossy charcoal w/green/earthy undertone, and if you have the patience after painting it once already, possibly pick out all the fretwork / sash on the original windows in the front (sashes also charcoal tone separate from leave the paint earth trim). This is the traditional option -

Test either or

No the new windows in the back won't match the front but they don't now. You can also go for more color on the front door. A rusty terracotta red could work and so could an eggplant raisin tone if you want more personality. Like or bm dark basalt

If it was my house, I'd go for the dark basalt . . most unique, great happy color everytime you come home. But if you have rust tones in your decor . . . the red may be your thing. Try them all over the next ten years depending on your mood.

Great suggestions! Thank you for your opinion and, of course, the door paint suggestions. I actually struggled quite a bit picking a door color. The picture posted does not show the door sufficiently. We ended up painting the security door the same light color as the body of the house and we painted the wood door Bengamin Moore - Hampshire Gray...very simular to your suggestions. Thanks again! Any other thoughts would be great!

Love the monochromatic makeover. Much better than the high contrast "before".
