i have a galley kitchen that I am redoing and can not decide to do white cabinets or espresso. I am leaning towards the espresso, however not sure it will work well with such a linear kitchen, possibly making it look small and tight. where as the white will give it a larger appearance.

IMO painting the cabinets dark is going to give you a tunnel effect and make the kitchen look smaller.

I would go white. The dark will Mack the space look small.

I like the contrast between the counter and cabinets. I would spend that time and money on something else!

If you're leaning towards espresso you'll always wonder .. so make it work by balancing it with a light floor, and stainless reflective appliances. Lastly, look further through your kitchen to that dining wall -- lighten up that color and add a few mirrors.

Open shelves and glass doors are helpful. Mirrored back splashes can be useful to.

Cabinets should be light (white/ivory) darker floor (black or grey tile), dark counters and glass tiles on backsplash, also use of under-cabinet lighting and effectively placed ceiling fixtures can help a ton! and maybe some glass cabinet doors in moderation like others have said.

Open shelving, glass shelving under cabinet lighting and in glass cabinet lighting as well as in the espresso colored.

Walls dark, cabinets light, and good lighting. Sometimes "espresso" color cabinets can look dated quickly. Also depends on your other textures, furniture colors, etc.

Mix of both? I was thinking of this kitchen and see its already been posted. I have a galley I just changed from dark to white. We added windows and if I had realized how much brighter the room would be I think I would have done a mix.

I vote for espresso cabinets with white countertops. White cabinets will not make your smaller space bigger. It will just make it feel more bland. What it needs is a stronger personality to distract one from the smaller space. I have used espresso cabinets in a darker kitchen with white tops and light beige floors and surprisingly, it works to warm the space.

Darker colors make things 'recede'.

Lots of things about your kitchen already look good--the cream cabinet color (white/off-white would also be nice) and the dark counters (which you could upgrade to a different material--quartz, granite, soapstone--but keep with the dark, matte finish). Maybe a marble subway tile for the backsplash? And changing the floors and appliances will make a big difference. Without a window in that small galley space I wouldn't do dark cabinetry.

I like eagledzines ideas--the galley kitchen with the espresso walls, white everything (except the appliances), that would be the way to go if you're really bent on a kitchen with an espresso color, but with such a small space like that, you'd be really better off with white.
