Most of the homes in the south have plantation shutters which I have throughout my home. My question is can you add draperies to soften a room with shutters or should you just let them show. My great room has extra high ceilings and seem like they need something to cozy it up. Please help. Thanks

You can always add drapery to soften a room, and let your plantation shutters show. Hang decorative drapery panels off each side of the window bank. In this picture there are 2 banks of windows. These will be non-functioning panels, and hang them as close to the ceiling while still framing out the window. ie, if there is a 5' space between the ceiling and the top of the window, hang the rod at least 1' above the window.
