Then I saw black doors thru out the houzz and decided that would look fantastic in our home.
The dilemma is what color to paint the kitchen cabinets now? Would black be OVERKILL or perhaps a mix of white cabinets and a black island...I need your input everybody the cabinets are ready to be painted. Thanks so much!

Go with the cabinet you like the best. Either would work. If you do black cabinets with black doors I would go with light countertops and walls.

Thanks for your comment, I agree. Always wanted white french doors (oak for now) and wondered what you think of painting the french doors white with all other doors black with white trim?

I have espresso kitchen cabs .. while I love the way they look, be prepared to dust/wipe them frequently as they really show the dust.

I think white french doors would look okay with all others black/white.

White cabs with dark island would look nice!

All my trim, doors, ceilings are white except a black patio door. I've had it for years and love it.

As far as cabinets go...do you have pictures of the space? That would help. White cabinets and black or paint to which black has been added often looks very nice.

A white French door would work. You could always paint it if you decide you don't like it in your space.

The black doors have nothing to do with the cabinet color. Choose what you want.

I agree with the above comments, which seem consistently to encourage whatever mix of black and white doors, trim, and cabinetry seems most to appeal to you. Consider the overall effect that the various elements in each room will create. Look for balance and interest. More black needs more light.

For us, lightly "rubbed-through" black cabinetry is most popular (with paint removed to show delicate presence of medium wood tones at edges). This softens the look a bit, gives an element of connection with nearby wood finishes, and lets the finish look better longer as occasional bumps and dings occur.

As I look at these photos of one of our recent projects, it is difficult even to see the fine rub-through detail - but it is there, and it helps, especially with this black & quarter sawn oak combo.

Have fun! Mark
