Brick or fiber cement with stone exterior?
October 1, 2013 in Design Dilemma
We are building a new home and can't decide between all brick or fiber cement siding and shakes with stone accents. We love the look of rustic contemporary with the exposed wood in gables and over windows but really like the idea of maintenance free brick. No annual washing and we wouldn't have to paint it 15 years. This is our retirement home but we are still in our 50's. Seems like the costs are going to be comparable due to the stone accents.

Maybe you can get the best of both worlds. I would encourage you to look at exterior photos here on Houzz and create an ideabook of things you like. You may be able to mix all of these elements in a tasteful way that provides you the look you want. I love to see brick and stone mixed (when done well) - but it depends on the style and location of your home.
