In my opinion, skin rugs work best where the look you are going for is modern. Also, because they aren't big, they often look better over top of a larger rug that is a plain neutral. Other than that, if you have specific questions it might be easier to tell you want to know.

Don't mind Margo, she was just teasing - right Margo??

On the floor, sometimes layered over other rugs that are low pile or solid. They can sometimes be mounted on a wall for an edgy look, too.

That is the area where I wanted to put skin rug...But now i am not sure. Place looks empty and not cosy.

I think a skin patchwork would work better than a single hide in this instance, as there is so much walkway involved. A tiled floor is a slippery idea without rug backing, which is more simply used with a more standard shape rug

I agree, olena; I find them best used decoratively, rather than in traffic areas.

It also depends on the size of it ,and where you are going to use it,avoid placing it in heavy traffic area, if you have small children avoid the floor placement ,spills in skin rugs will make the rug smell badly,if you know what a wet dog or cat smell like when wet you get the picture :)

olena -- do you have an IKEA nearby? you could always buy one from there to see how it works out in your space, and return it within 30 if it's a problem. They have a wide assortment of cowhides in different colors for $199 each.

Olena, That looks like a high traffic area. You might be better off with an outdoor rug there. They have no pile, so dirt can't sink into them. Just vacuum and that's it! You can also drag them outside and wash them with a garden hose if you get a spill on them.

olena- can you show us a photo of the rug. I could have at least answered you better when you first posted if you would have posted the room at that time. Sorry, without a pic it was like answering in the blind;)
