Do I remove a mirrored wall in my living room?

We recently bought a contemporary style home with sunken living room, a smoky brown mirrored wall surrounding a gas fireplace. Is this outdated? Should I remove the mirrors?

I think you are going to some interesting comments on this both pro and con. I personally could not handle all that mirror in my livingroom. I am on the remove side:)

When there is something beautiful (a spectacular view) to reflect, mirrors are wonderful. Mirrors can also add shine and make a room seem larger and brighter. If your room doesn't need to look larger or brighter, you might want to remove. They might stay if the room will be decorated in a very luxurious style, but it looks like your furniture is more casual/transitional.

My furniture minus my husbands black leather couch is traditional/casual so your point is well taken! The idea of screens is very interesting. I want to go with a rustic chic look bc we are surrounded by beautiful woods and the house feels like a lodge. Maybe stone in place of mirrors?

Whoops, erased the screens when attaching the above picture.

One of these on either side of the fireplace, staying on the hearth.

abberose, I think I like the trimmed mirrored wall a little better than the screens. What do you think?

That will be a big project. And will mess up your walls. Have you gotten a bid on how much? It's 1980 s. But the 80 s maybe coming back. I shutter to think. But all that goes around comes around. They are not that bad. But do lose the sofa, go much lighter with print chairs, and you may not notice.

Are walls faux painted? Those have to go. A soft gray would work.

I would take it off because who wants to clean that mirror wall?? It would be neat if you didn't have to clean it. lol

Haven't gotten a bid yet. I just can't get my head around the style of the room. Thank you!,

A good designer could do a lot with the room including the mirrors. It could be fabulous with a coherent plan. The mirrors are almost old enough to be back in style. Are you changing the carpet and wall paint?

So is furn yours? I would add two 5 ft chest matching on either side of firepl. Add very big and tall pots of various size to them. If power on this wall add big oversized lamps to center. Red would be fun. Keep furn in the grays and use teal, accents. Is this a TV room?

The carpet is chocolate brown wool with a small white design. Was hoping to not replace that. Hmmm...

If you like the trimmed mirrors, think about this gilded molding look from your ideabook:

Oh, the carpet is brown. It looked purple on my monitor! Chocolate brown wool is good.

If you could add a mantel over firepl low. Then place a very 6ft tall contemporary art. Just lean on mantel. Make art wide 40" that would give the eye something else to look at.

Yes mish mosh of furniture I don't know where to put in house. Wow never thought if placing furniture on the marble under fireplace...so it sounds like there are many ways to work with the mirrors.

If carpet is chocolate. Go a gray taupe on all walls. Keep furn in same tones. Taupe/gray. Teal is still good accent. Sherwin and B Moore good color choices.
