Want to paint my stairwell and upstairs hallway. If possible I would love to use two colors and make it look warm and not so blah with pictures or some kind of decor plus the window in stairwell is long and high up. What are some great ideas for color? These are the pictures of stairway

Here is a photo of a stairway of one of our projects that is simple yet interesting. Dark stained wood stairs, classic handrail, photos on the wall...........

Halls take you from one room to another. Just painting a hall, which is the space you should really want to call the least attention to, isn't a good idea. You should have the hall the same color as the main room it comes from. Add pics if you want but don't paint a hall independently of other walls.

I was thinking of doing a lighter color than the down stairs! And is it true to paint the far wall different color to make it look bigger

Is the whole rest of your home decorated the way you want it? Don't focus on a hall if there's any other decorating to be done.

I'm not a big fan of accent walls. To me you should accent your walls with great pictures that compliment your furniture and add color and interest to your walls.

Same with the window. That's not a window you want to call attention to. If you need something to block the light then get a shade that blends with the wall color or a bamboo shade or wood blinds in white.

Paint everything but please just do 1 color! Yes carry that color to the room or hallways you end up in. I dislike windows like that. I call them peeping windows. They look in on a private part of the house so they should have a cellular shade over them you can close at night or if too sunny etc. No curtains as they are too hard to open or close. Also match the blind with the wall color. It will make it all disappear. Contrasting colors will make it seem heavy on top.

To do away with the blah feeling, put up some fun pictures of family, friends, pets, vacations etc... or try this... http://www.dezignwithaz.com/ Wall stickers 100s of designs and you can pick your colors, easy to put up and take down and does not mar wall.
