Pop of color?

Leslie FoleyOctober 8, 2013
I have just painted my living room from burgundy and butterscotch to a mint green and brown. Now I want to add in a pop of bold color for accents. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I also haven't decided what to put on my wall behind my couch yet.

I'm in the midst of making some new pillow covers for my Etsy shop. You may like the color combinations. If they interest you, watch over the next few days as I add more to the collection. https://www.etsy.com/listing/165127621/floral-print-pillow-cover-cushion-cover?ref=related-5

I think some mint throw pillows would look great and mimic the mint green/brown wall colors on the couch.

I think if you want to add a pop of color the area rug needs to be bumped up a color notch. A rug that incorporates more than the green and brown, and will allow to add another small pop. The green, brown, blues and maybe even a small bit of yellow.

How about shooting for some art and pulling color from there? Walls awfully bare.

i think you need some sunny yellow in there, or some sky blue. or touches of both.

and the rug is now too dark, to me. it's quite pretty though. is there another room it could go in? (maybe switch places with a lighter-colored rug?)

The walls are so bare since I haven't figured out what to put there. The rug matched the previous colors (burgundy and butterscotch). I think it blends well, but I'm open to replacing it. I just haven't found the right one yet. I just finished painting 4 days ago. I'm surprised how expensive rugs are.

Here are a few ideas for your space. In the first collage, I've used your existing rug. It is a little tricky to pull in the burgundy of your rug, but not impossible. In the second, I've mainly used the green and butterscotch of your walls. In third collage, I suggest a Persian, from which you can pull so many colors because of their complex patterns. Hope you find some inspiration here!

Leslie, I should mention that your current rug seems a little small - is it a 5X7 or 8X10? An 8X10 is usually a better size for a LR. If it is an 8X10, try moving your end wall sofa forward a bit.
