Replaced a few cabinets then had them professionally painted. New hardware applied. Granite counters, mosaic tile backsplash, new appliances, sink and faucet. Porcelain tiled floors and new lighting. Total cost $16k.

That is great and so inspiring! I am currently looking into kitchen update and was suffering from sticker shock! Even from the so-called affordable alternatives!

New stove from Home depot (online) $1400.00 note the oven is gas also and we love it. No need for convection if your oven is gas fueled by the way.

Thank you so much on the stove information! Can you tell me what brand it is and whether it is a 4 burner or 5 burner stove? I'd so appreciate it. Thank you!

It is a 4 burner stove. I chose this range because I liked the stainless knobs better than any of the others. It was one of the least priced stainless gas slide in ranges available. I love it though!

GE brand. I was in Sears today and saw they have a good selection of slide in ranges. I didn't think to look in Sears when I chose the appliances.

Added character to a one note kitchen - did you add bar-stools to the bar area? Might keep it from being a catch-all! Nice work here . ..

Do you mind me asking how much to have the cabinets professionally painted? Thinking about doing it but nervous on how they will come out. Don't want them to be chipping in a year or two. And who did them-a regular painter or a specialty cabinet painter?

Professionally painted by a painting company in town who specializes in cabinet refinishing and painting. They took all the doors to their shop to be painted and cure (2weeks). Boxes were hand painted. Painters gauranteed finish to be 99% as strong as factory painted cabinets. They look fantastic, flawless and like new. I would never try this myself on such a large scale project. Cost $3000.00 for cabinets, island and 2 wooden bar stools. Included cleaning, sanding, primer, calking joints, painting with sprayer 2 coats, reassemble and reinstall. Expensive yes but it really does look new. If I were to purchase new cabinets, I would have bought painted maple ones anyway as I love the look over stained cabinets.

I am following in your footsteps for a cost conscious redo. What I have found out so far:
Refacing cabinets: $15,000
Brand new cabinets: $12000
N Hance (stain and seal, color change over existing ugly orangish oak) $2300
