Black fruit bowl

Have the exact same fruit bowl - it was my Mom's so it's sentimental. Right now it's a medium brown wood colour. After seeing yours, I'm painting it black!!!!! Thanks for the great idea!

Hi Luv, long time I have been in contact! How is the house progressing? I am not sure what the previous thread was about and what you intend to do. I see you are swapping out the circular hanging pieces for a wine label. I like the black fruit bowl, but innocently and without knowing the background, I find it a little too angular and too high. I would have liked to see a lower simpler bowl ... or can you find a black platter on which to place it so it has more of an 'anchor' on the foot. All the best to you, antoinette

I'm with @ carolins, no runner and although I do like the black bowl I think the round white one is better suited to the round table. I just saw the greatest plates with a simple pear design at Homegoods that would be fabulous on your table!

Each week you can change out or mix and match. You can have a new look each week. Enjoy all the looks;) How about that? Please post a pic when you get the runner OK?

Hey there great thread and great question. The contrast that comes from black is great but take a look what is missing?... after you filled in that thought you will see you have your answer..hopefully we saw the same thing. First the place mat underneath the bowl needs to be circular and of a darker color to help accentuate the table go with a light brown to show an Evolution of Color from the light brown table, to a darker brown place mat then the black bowl. For the windows lets really embrace that beautiful view you have bright greens or white snow in the winter we want to frame that picturesque masterpiece of nature you have right in front of you as you eat breakfast. We can frame it off with nice medium dark brown drapes tucked off to the side in a diagonal style to give you a flowing presence for the view. I hope the little input i had means anything.

Margo, you are too much!!!!. I especially like your comment that our comments will be all over the place for preferences. Luv asked me to comment,

so UH OH.... If I were starting from scratch.... I love black for the centerpiece ... but ..., UH OH ... I would choose round and larger ... but, to use what you have, spray paint the white round lace bowl - black. Spray paint the oval white platter - black , UH OH but would prefer a round platter. I think the arrangement has to be beefier in scale. Table runner will be fine, but the bowl needs something substantial under it.

This is just my OCD speaking here. Can you use the black rectangle bowl on the kitchen counter? Put lemons in it. Don't want you to waste money :) I just added another comment that will stress you out. LOL

I really do love the label for art, but I still think you need a longer vertical piece on that wall to balance the wall nicer. Is there a complimentary piece available? Two vertically would fit well.

I feel that the space that you used for the 3 pieces + a little lower would be balanced. Last thread, I remember saying they could have more space between them to come a little lower on the wall, and the top one could stay where it is.

Hi, all. @ LB, I am wondering about the purpose of houzz and all of us on it, reading and joining in and giving our advice and examples and opinions (you get my drift I'm sure) if what centerpiece luvdecorating2 chooses doesn't "matter a hill of beans?" Do you mean to speak in a very wide-spread big-picture, philosophical sense? As in life is short, we're only talking a centerpiece here, so just pick one that matches and be done with it. I hope not. (And I don't think that would be you either. But, well, those words, they just jumped out at me). For the record I have to say I much prefer life is short, so find the most exquisite fruit bowl for your table (no matter the price point) and let it bring you a bit of happiness today. ( In my defense I come on Houzz because it's fun listening to the give and take, and it is truly a place to learn something; and I do it late at night to relax after a long evening (day) shared with my beautiful mother who has dementia. That she is being consumed by dementia makes me question more and more lately. And I do hope my sense of humor is back and kicking when I wake in the morning.)

Hi Madeline, the way I meant my comment, is that it doesn't matter in the long haul what any of us prefer, it's what pleases luvdecorating2. Life is short and yes that is also my meaning. By the way, luvdecorating2 doesn't want to spend a lot of money and is trying to make some changes inexpensively.

As to "pick one and be done with it".... where did you ever get that meaning from? Must be your own take on it.

Hi Madeline- on behalf of my Houzzer PRO LB, she was indeed speaking to luvdecorating2 with her best intentions. She meant it doesn't mean a *hill of beans* what we think but to get what would make her happy. We all feel that way. it is our silly sense of humor that get some people confused. I am the bad seed for that LOL. I am glad you read Houzz for relaxation to unwind, I am sure it must be stressful for you dealing with her dementia. I like to say *People we/I are not getting any younger here* implying to enjoy it all, we only get this ride once;))

I love these plaques, I could not see them clearly on my monitor. I came across these looking for stuff and thought the shape looked familar. NO do not paint these and keep them;)) sometimes we cannot see things right.

What you could try to do is make the space between them a bit more and maybe put a frame around them to add height .

Hi luvdecorating2,
could you not have both in your room? The plaques ánd the wine label? If you love them both... No space for the label on another wall?

Hi carolins! No, I really don't have space for both, but great idea! Thanks!

I knew I loved those plates! The motifs are very sweet - IMO those are keepers. What about a vertical plate holder to get this "presence" you're looking for?

luv, those plaques are super nice up close as in Margo's pic from Ballard. Hard to have seen what they were like from your room pic. Yes, maybe I would put a bit more space between them on that wall. Regarding the other plaque from Ballard, for some reason I thought that was going on the calendar wall by kitchen. I am trying to think about your other post. :))

Thanks Margo and Luv and carolins for your nice comments.
I agree 'unwantedadvice'. Spacing the plaques out and keeping the top one where it is. I mentioned the same thing earlier on the old thread and earlier on this one :) I was wanting to save LUV money by using them and just felt they needed to spread out a a bit :) But if Luv is open to adding more color there or something different, we were trying to suggest other options. LUV, what do you feel like you want to do? keep the plaques or ? OOPs just saw that you will be keeping them.

You may want to whitewash them, so that the dimension and designs are more readily seen. Not paint enitirely.

Hi LB!! I know you suggested spacing them out, and I appreciate it! I think at least for now I'll keep the plaques since I've spent enough in this room. My runner should be finished tonight and in the mail to me tomorrow! LB, Margo, and others, thank you SO MUCH for your help!!

Whitewash is leaving some of the base color of the plaques, adding white paint mixture and gently skimming off 'some' of the paint. Leaving more paint in the deep parts of the design, The raised parts will be the metal color. A weathered shabby chic finish.

Lightly sand them. Mix 1/2 glaze and 1/2 white paint. One at a time. Brush mixture on. Let it stand about 2 minutes. Wipe with a lightly damp cloth 'very gently' over the entire piece. Just skimming the raised surfaces that will remove some of the paint.

I would change the paint and water formula. Glaze and paint is easier and not so watery, so I like that best. It also doesn't dry too fast.

I would maybe mix 3/4 paint and 1/4 water. You might not have to let stand for 2 minutes. With water mixture, you may not get enough milky coverage.
