Did you find out what kind if backsplash it is?

What material is this backsplash?

My guess is that it is paintable vinyl anaglypta.

Thanks for the info. Not sure that it would be a great back splash material, but if it helps with sound absorption, I do want to look into it. I remember while living in Germany, we always papered our walls with textures and then painted them. I don't think we used vinyl though -- not 40 years ago.
