Input on layout of the downstairs!!

Leilanie HollisOctober 10, 2013
Moving into our home and wanted to change the use for each room and wanted to see what you guys think!

1. Wanted to convert the living room/dining area to a full living room. We don't want the tv in this room bc since I'll be in the kitchen a lot I don't want the kids being so close to the front door so it'll just be a living/sitting/calming room. I'm just not sure what to do with the space since it's an odd shape. Any ideas on what I should change the area near the bay window to?

2. Where they put their dining table is where we want to change to the family room. Not sure where to put the tv in this room. I've read that putting it above the fireplace is a no no. Also we have the wet bar to the left that might throw it off.

3. The area near the kitchen where the chair is is where our dining table will be. It's a small area. Any suggestions on what type of table to get?

With having 2 kids I feel this would be much better but if someone has issues that I may not see please feel free to voice it! :) thanks!

living room:

a small round ottoman or coffee table with small lounge chairs around it. Would need more pics of room to tell you how to arrange the rest of the room

tv: I am normally against tv's over fp, but here there is no other option and since the fp is not high, I think it will work.

table in eating area:

I would suggest a bench under the window and then a rectangular table. The bench could be a built-in banquette that turns the corner (L-shaped).

TV above the fireplace. With that said, where might I store the cable box or blue ray?

I would move that large amoire out----too big and covering a window.

I would store the cable box/blue ray under one of the windows. You can buy a small tv stand.

I agree that a banquet with a narrow rectangle table would be your best bet in the kitchen area as you need to have enough room to pass by the table to get to the family room. If your main seating in the family room is set back from the fireplace, then the tv will work over it. You can angle the tv towards the floor which will facilitate viewing.

As far is the living/dining area goes, a game table in the current dining area is great fun for family game night or puzzle making . In the current living area a sofa in front of the window with a love seat along the wall with a chair diagonally from the corner would make a nice conversational area for guests or a quiet/comfy reading, napping nook for Mom or Dad.
