Hi there jnldemmer, thank you for noticing. The trees you like are River Birch. The leaves are yellow because the photo was taken in the fall. After they loose their leaves the trees remain very interesting for the bark!

What are the green plants, just to the left of the rock, in the front? Are they evergreen? How wide and how tall are they, at maturity? And, will they tolerate shadow? Thanks.

Hi Billie, thank you. Those green plants are called Emerald Green Junipers. These evergreens will grow to approximately 5' height and spread at maturity and are moderate growers.
