Are you asking about making the room brighter, or more interesting? More pics would help.

It's a little hard to tell because we can't see most of the room, but I would venture a guess that a rug would be good. I would also find some larger/bolder artwork.

Thanks for posting this image. All of the items in the room are pretty similar in terms of their color and pattern, and it is also fairly dark and cool. If it were my place, I think I would look for some larger scaled work, maybe a big mirror to reflect the light from the window, maybe some warmer and/or lighter colors?

A rug would definitely help. An off white shag. Love the coffee table where did you purchase that?

Lose the drapes and the brass rod. Have inside mount treatment...honeycombs would be good. Get rid of all the "little" items on the wall and replace with larger pieces. You have no focal point now. Is there a TV we are not seeing? Purchase an area rug. Large mirror instead of the clock. What is that piece that looks like a film reel? Pull out that yellow/mustard colour that is in sofas...probably would have been better with a sofa and two chairs instead of two sofas the same size and colour? Think COLOUR, Pattern, Scale and texture....try to mix it up a bit! Have fun and good luck!

Find an area rug you like and draw a color for wall paint or if you like your paint then add a rug to accent it. You can find something in the Italian or Mediterranean style you like along with some room accessories.

Well...film strip does not really say Italian. First...what colour is your wall? Mediterranean and Italian can be quite different. Search for images of rooms you like and look for common themes. Now that I know there is no TV...you might want to draw attention to the window with an elaborate window treatment of drapes...pull out the yellow tone again. Are those purple pillows on the couch? If so, switch them out for the yellow. You could introduce some terracotta. Look for a large format piece of art with a Tuscan villa etc. I will send along some pics if I find anything...

Artwork along this line...drapery...notice how the yellow is a common colour? You have a floral print on the seating, you could do a yellow and grey stripe for the drapery...

The blue color of your wall is not helping your decor.

The clock is too small for that wall, I would move it somewhere else. The filmstrip doesn't look right...I would move that too.

I don't see Italian or Mediterranean in this design.

I can imagine this working well on the current clock wall.

One more thing....if you have room, place your sofas facing each other. Ideally one of those pieces would be chairs...

You could go with a light gray...see PPG Whiskers. Use colour in your artwork.

I think the tan/taupe that is in your couch and inside the clock, would like very nice.
Also...it will have more of a Mediterranean feel.
