Can you tell me the most durable hardwood flooring?

I want to put wood flooring in an office/craftroom. I would like a handcrapped or distressed look so I'm not freaking out every time the kids drop something. I would like a darker wood. Any suggestions as to a species and/or manufacturer? My head is spinning from trying to find the right flooring.

Wood that is more highly figured and in the middle of the light-to-dark range will show the least dirt. Solid hardwood as opposed to veneer will last longer.

I really appreciate the help. This has been a very confusing task finding the right wood that will cause the least headache.
