Undecided crown moulding or not?
October 21, 2013 in Design Dilemma
We recently bought a huge town home i put crown moulding in the entire first floor and looks beautiful.....will it be ok to put crown moulding in every single room of the entire house? And staircases too? Or is this overkill?

on the contrary, it'll make the house seem consistent.

crown moulding is lovely.

Crown molding...any molding for that matter... throughout a house is a great foundation for transforming empty spaces into comfortable living spaces. You will find that you won't need as many items to furnish these spaces in order to make them appealing.

Typically the second floor rooms are trimmed to a lesser degree than the more public rooms of the first floor. You may want to consider adding a second piece of "panel" molding a couple of inches below your first floor crown and paint the crown, panel molding and wall in between the same color to give it more stature than the second floor moldings.

I have crown molding everywhere. My wonderful builder even put it in my walk in closet. You can't have too much of a good thing!

I find crown molding finishes off the room...loses impact if all the same everywhere though.

If it's in your budget, then go for it. It will add to resale value down the road (at least in my neck of the woods.)
