Need ideas for my basement ceiling.

Going for an old school feel with my basement and I don't want to put drywall on the ceiling. I was thinking exposed with paint or stain, but the wiring running in the joists isn't very neat and the joists themselves aren't that attractive. I think plain white drop ceiling tiles will kill the vibe, the decorative tiles I have found are CRAZY expensive, I can't stick 3-5 gs into just the ceiling. To give you an idea of the rest I will have exposed brick on one wall, a pool table and "pub" type setup.

Something like this would look nice they did dome work with moving wiring but painting it all will hide a lot of the wiring

I really like the suggestion form Rocken Fine Finish. The space between the floor joists give the basement ceiling a sense of height that you would not have if you did a flush ceiling tile ceiling...............and it certainly feels very traditional and "old school".................Unless you really meant that you want it to look like an 1950's old school building.......??

I saw a really neat laundry room ceiling finished with galvanized steel panels. Gave it a industrial feel without being too expensive and still possible to take down if necessary for access above
