need paint advise

pages237October 22, 2013
I dont know whether or not to paint the back of my front door black the same as the outside color.
the accent wall with the mirror is BM french press the rest is BM jute.
I keep seeing these lovely pictures on Houzz where people are painting the inside of their front doors black and I love it. Can I get away with it in such a small place???

You could try it.......I would leave the trim and surrounding moldings and windows white.....
If you are not sure, you could tape up some black paper on the door to get a feel for it before you commit to it with paint.........

The adjacent wall is so dark that a black door might be too much dark. It is a good idea to try out the black with some black paper first.

I think it would make your room seem really dark.

I have to agree with smileyface. My daughter's home was repainted, all the trim is Dove White, and the walls are Revere Pewter (BM) and she painted the inside of her back and front door black and it looks great. I'm worried that the dark brown wall just won't set the black off correctly. If you repainted the accent wall Jute, then I could see it. IMHO!

I agree with some of the comments above, not with the current nearby accent wall color.

I think the back of the entry door should be the same as the front side also. When both sides are the same and introduce you to the color(s) in the entry as a complementary and contrasting color, it's best. One option I'm seeing would be to change the French Press to Jute or another light color. Then the back of the door in black would be not too much 'dark'.
