What do do with the front entrance?
Collette TattmanOctober 22, 2013
I like the black, its different! But just before I moved in the previous owners installed the wall paper. I dont love it. Was thinking of putting up rustic barn wood along the stair way as well as over the white under the stairs cupboard?

I'd suggest keeping the wallpaper just under the stair only (where the panther pic is) and painting the other walls that sage/gold tone already upstairs. It will tie the two together nicely.

I'd be inclined to paint the inside of your back door black as well.

Taking about the entrance room. Just my thoughts. The wallpaper is really good. I would place a big mirror instead of the brown item to make the space bigger. I think you also need more lightening here - on the walls - it makes the place more even and not so small. I would also suggest you putting photos in separated whites frames and hang them on one of the black walls (hang some friends' photo who mostly take these doors :) ) Not sure about the black leopard picture. I would not have any carpets here.

Don't be discouraged about the black - it can be stunning!

Yes, I like the black too. Good suggestion about changing some of the paper to the other wall color. What do u think about the painted white storage under the stairs and my idea of covering it with old barn wood?

What about an interesting door color other than the white or black, such as teal or red?

Yes and yes :) do you know the name of the sage/golden color upstairs? I'd like to take a closer look at it before given you my input on the front door. I don't think I would choose red but teal intrigues me.

Def chunky matte black handle and hinges on the barn door - something with a modern sensibility but with a lot of presence

I like your idea of using reclaimed barn wood in the entrance and storage area.

Think I finally found the perfect color for your door. . . . . BM Rendezvous Bay. It can hold its own against the black and fava while not looking cartoonish. Of course I am limited by monitor calibration but I think it could be worth a sample at least.

The barn wood would be great, and I never thought I'd ever say this if I hadn't seen it first, but I love the black (who'd have thunk it). But the door does beg to be painted.

Thanks for showing me that black does not equal goth excess. It's really pretty cool!

I painted the door. Now I just need some great artwork! Sorry about the lighting, its dark out so the light is blinding and casting shadows of the black chandelier but you get the idea.
