Rug - is it terrible??

October 25, 2013 in Design Dilemma
Just bought this rug. In the store it looked like part of the pattern was grey but its actually off white. My sofas are grey leather. Is the colour of the rug totally off? I can return it although i do like the rug. What do the experts think?? Thank you!

Looks fine, just needs a coffee table or ottoman on top.

I like the rug but with your furnishings (black shelf?) it's too dark

Return it. And don't buy a thing brown. Go a gray, with white and some accent color. Stay lighter, all walls etc are dark.

And not so big. 6 x 9 is big enough.

Too big and too dark considering other colors in the room. Think lighter background.

Are your walls in the yellow green family?? Maybe get something to match that with a gray in it..or just a light colored long shag would look nice in there as well.

Sorry the rug clashes with everything else, and it hides your entire floor, I would return it.

Some plain dark olive colored pillows (maybe some patterned orange&cream too) and light wood and orange in the wall unit and you're good to go.

Are you going to hang your tv on that unit? (I guess so) Maybe you could put one of those wooden frames around it.

the new rug looks fantastic - add in some cushions using the colours from the rug and you're done...really really great rug.

I like the pillow color with the design that you have in the other chair. Add several pillows to the sofa that have a subtle pattern in color but texture in the fabric. Something soft to mimic the softness in the rug maybe. I wouldn't go with anything that has a sheen to it.

Thank you guys! Yes a tv will eventually go up. How about a coffee table? Ottoman?

I say yes to an ottoman and coffee table, but I think it should be a combo ottoman and coffee table. Most of these have some storage in them too. You don't want the floor space to get too crowded.

The new rug is great. Maybe a glass top table to keep the room less heavy. Choose colors from the rug for accent pillows as others have mentioned. It seems that the sofa placement will make it a little difficult to watch TV. Maybe you can place the sofa opposite the TV to float in the room? Then the chair under the artwork where the sofa is now. Just a thought.

If you can change the sofa arrangement, then I woud probably turn the rug the other way, if it doesn't go from wall to wall.

If you are keeping the sofa arrangement, how does the rug fit if it was turned and parallel to the TV? The rug extends quite a distance past the sofa.

I see a table next to the sofa. Could you move the table and pull the sofa over so it is centered on the rug? If you can make the sofa face the tv I agree with LV's suggestions.

If you are asking the question then you already know! You can keep the carpet, but you would need to change the color of the chairs and repaint the walls.

LB those cushions are amazing! I especially like the 3rd one something about it screams 'Casablanca'... As for the tv, we wont spend much time in this room as it is at the entrance and we have a famy room in bsmt. We will keep in mind the suggestion. Thanks to all for the advice!

I would get pillows that pick up the darker shades of the rug ,once you add a coffee table on it the room will instantly give you and us a different look.
