Too hard to dust anything you'd put up there.

I don't think the yellow is good with your cabinets... but, if you are putting items in the open soffits, keep it simple.

Don;'t put anything up there .... you've got a very nice, clean looking space. The uplighting idea is a good one from Brenda.

A gray or gray/blue paint would look nice ... a shiny, glass backsplash ... a nice colorful bowl of fruit or small canister set on the counter would add a bit of color.

I would put some plants above the higher cabinets and a few big items.

gwinnett1983, I like your wall color, looks wonderful with the cabinet color. On Houzz photo site, search for decorating above kitchen cabinets and all sorts of ideas come up. I would keep items simple and few for the dusting aspect.

With the amount of space you have between the top of the upper cabinets and the ceiling my inclination would be to accessorize. Simplicity and scale are elements to consider. Chargers with stands, cool ceramics, silk grasses as fillers.......not much into the silk Ivies or Grape vines. Several groupings in lieu of spreading out.....not too small and not too many pieces. Global views has some pieces you might consider mounting to the wall.

I would put paper towel rolled out on all the tops to catch the dust. Change it a couple times per year. I would put nothing else. Add pops of color in accessories on your countertop and walls.

I would change the upper wall color and then add some lighting. Sometimes less is more. I dont think the yellow goes with your backsplash or cabinets which are very nice. I was thinking about a color that would make the upper walls recede. I know grey is a very popular color and it comes in some many different hues
