Unusable bedroom window

October 31, 2013 in Design Dilemma
Just bought a house in PR and the previous owner built a shed on the back of the house blocking a bedroom window. In other words, the window is looking into the shed. I'm not interested in any architectural modifications. I just want some ideas as to how to decorate with window coverings. There is another window in the room. Thanks for your help. :-)

Ha, ha. Unfortunately the shed is dark. I was thinking of putting some sort of white covering over the glass so the darkness from the shed wont bleed thru. Then I'd use drapes over that and just keep them closed. ???

The window looks into the inside of the shed unfortunately. :-)

Just cover it with curtains and never open them. Something like this...

Put mirrors in the panes and then put the same window treatments on both windows.

Are you saying the shed was built attached to the house and no light comes in the window at all or is it just bocking the window like being 5ft away? If the shed is attached depending on the window it might become a bookshelf or something. I like the mirror idea if it needs to be seen as a window. Any light at all coming in the window, I would put sheer curtains to let the little amount of light that comes in. Really need a picture

Thanks for the ideas. I appreciate it. In PR, as in some other Caribbean islands, they have these louvered window panes. I couldn't really do the mirror idea but I wonder if I could try to find a mirror approx the size if the window and just decorate it like the other window? I'd probably put sheers in front of both windows with the drapes to the side?

A photo would help a lot. You could cover the entire wall in 3d wall panels and completely cover the window without construction.

How about putting wood louvered shutters or colored drapes and centering your bed on it and keeping everything closed. At least this room looks like it is a room that doesn't have to have the other window. It has a fan, the split, and a very large second window. If it wasn't a bedroom I would say you could put a wood trim frame and build in shelves or put a tv in it but I think you need that wall space for the bed, I would just leave it. No one will ever reach around the back of the headboard and try to look out the window.

You could use some plain or decorative opaque window film on the panes to hide the view but let in light, and then install drapes.

Thank you, folks. Appreciate your ideas. I think I'll try the "headboard" idea. Thanks again. :-)
