How does this granite hold up? Stains?

Although granite is stain resistant, it is not stain proof. We preseal all of our granite and recommend homeowners reseal their granite countertops every six months to one year, depending on how heavily the countertops are used to prevent any staining. If, by chance, a tough stain does occur, you can use a poultice to remove it.

The granite in the photo is New Caledonia. It is a very strong and durable stone but unfortunately it is a bit porous (prone to staining). Some stones, usually the darker ones, tend to be very dense and in turn are highly resistant to staining. With this type of stone you will need to reseal about once a year. It is a very simple process. Simply wipe down the countertop with a good sealer (such the one in the attached photo) once a year, let sit for 24 hours, and stains will not be a problem. When shopping for stones, bring a water bottle and paper towel. Dab some water on the slab, let sit for about 30 seconds, and then wipe away. If you see that it has left a dark spot then you know this stone will have to be resealed.
