Need ideas on covering lamninate countertop - kitchen
November 2, 2013 in Design Dilemma
Working on DIY kitchen renovation - countertops are ugly peach laminate - prefer to find a way to cover them rather than replace - budget driven project. Paint them? Cover with tile? Ideas welcome!

Tile would be a more durable choice compared to paint.

Hello sanybel - For any lasting result, I wouldn't recommend either of those plans. You might be surprised to see how economical a new set of this type of counter would be - in a thousand different colors-textures.

Paint will soon come off, and tile will be a lot of work, and frankly impossible to apply on the rounded nose and splash that you have here.

These will come right off, and new ones on, with very little effort, and very moderate expense. ...worth exploring, at least, right? Good Luck! Mark

See if you can find a company that does makeovers using the existing benchtop, we did this with a granite composite kind of product, so our benchtop ended up looking like a piece of granite. I was really happy with it. No DIY thing but less expensive than redoing the entire thing. In Australia its called Granite Transformations.

NEVER use a resurfacing enamel. There's a Rustoleum product that is TERRIBLE. Just a heads up. Sometimes we get desperate when we have the itch to change. The fumes are noxious, and it takes forever to dry, and it stains terribly and easily.

Disagree with Heidi. I used Rustoleum Countertop Transformation and was very pleased with results. I finished my kitchen a couple of years ago and counters stool look new. Highly recommend the product.
