What colour to paint fireplace fascia?

We're thinking a really dark blue would look nice. What do the Houzzers think?

p.s. The entire fireplace will be rebuilt during a future renovation. This is just a bandaid solution until then.

I"m not fond of a dark blue with the oher colors in the room. I would extend the taupe color of your fireplace surround up that wall for now.

Since its temporary why not be a little daring? BM Rich Cream for the mantle and French Violet for the wall.

I think dark blue could appear black in low light, so if you want to go with blue, I'd go with a little brighter blue.

Hi All,

I'm not sure if I was clear. Only the grey stone around the fireplace will be painted.

The mantle is white and the walls were recently painted a shade of grey that escapes my memory.

Gut reaction was to paint the stone a grey that is darker than the wall. White would be fresh. But there is so much grey and white in the room already - that's why I thought dark blue may work.

Keep sending your ideas. Thanks!

I really like the blue idea a lot! It will look very nice next to the hearth as well. Or, dare I say blue, but sometimes wonder...is that blue or purple? :)

Rug is Allahambra(? Spell) inspired. Hope you wear a harem costume now and again.

I'm a bit baffled that you want to paint that. Looking at the decor in the room it suits it perfectly, and the detail on the stone is gorgeous. Why are you thinking of painting it? What you need is a smaller fireplace screen to show off the opening detail of the stone.

The room is full of cool colors; I would warm up the walls. I'm thinking something like the warm photo mat on the top right of your photo collection.

Hi Solincia - thanks for your feedback! Just not loving the grey of the stone right now. If it was a gorgeous brick, we would leave it alone.

Why do you feel a need to paint it at all? What troubles you about it now?

As for painting it, my feeling is that fireplaces should look like they are used for burning fires. That means they are made of stone. I've never seen blue stone (except for sapphires, ok, I'll give you that).

Also, it looks like you do use the fireplace. I'm not sure how house paint would hold up.

The more I look at this fireplace, the more I like it. Painted, it would look cheap and prefab--in particular, would lose some of its depth and texture.

Charcoal grey or leave it....... What does blue have to do with the room? This looks like awesome decor, stay in the same color pallet, it works.
