kitchen decision
November 3, 2013 in Design Dilemma
We are considering crema bordeaux granite in the kitchen. Our cabinets are natural cherry and the appliances are stainless steel. Because the kitchen does not have a lot of natural light we thought white subway tiles for the back splash. My friends are all recommending beige travertine. Am I a design misfit?

My initial notion, 01, is to join with you in your misfit state. Your natural cherry will show a good bit of color variety (even increasing somewhat over the years), and your crema bordeaux also has a lot of color movement. So I'm thinking that travertine might be a bit much as a companion. If you decide that white is too stark for you, a soft beige solid-colored porcelain tile might do well also - and maybe a larger format than the 3 x 6 subway would let the granite show off most grandly. Have fun! Mark

We decided on an oversized subway tile in my daughters kitchen and it is outstanding.,,,.go with subway and consider the above suggestion.

Travertine and granite? They will compete, obviously.
