Which way to go? Huge home remodel in Chicagoland

Sprawling 60s home, I mean sprawling, multiple front doors and crazy rooflines. Owners want huge picture windows looking out at wildlife while keeping deep eaves and new grand entry for BIG fundraising events. Looking to keep some of the good original stone. This exterior direction will define what follows. Mmmmmmmmmm

Cool house! I'm not a fan of scheme 1 as this isn't a Victorian and never will be so I find the windows a distraction. Scheme 2 is more appealing to my eye but reminds me of a medical or professional office building with the more utilitarian design.

Scheme 3 is my favorite. I really like the modern versions of Craftsman style but you could alternatively move toward the lodge look which might fit well into the context of the lot. An imposing oversize single front door with side lights, maybe 39 or 42 inches wide, would help tone down the office building appearance.

Just my opinions...you're the architect... I'd love to see updated drawings as you refine the look

yeah, when I was drawing scheme 2 I actually went 'blah'. The owners wanted me to try the modern angle while keeping the stone, eaves, picture windows, geometry of addition...

I hate to say it, but my experience with "huge remodels" is that you will end up with a much, much better house if you tear it down and start over! We recycle 95% of the old house when we do demolition.

I wish that was an option. With lending what it is and the fact the owners want single floor, but a lot of space, the new home would be sprawling too.

Scheme 3. They will need new landscaping including grass or groundcovers that people will walk on. Garden walls can be a height people can sit on; make sure tops are smooth enough to be comfortable. Think about what a college president's front and back yards look like. A circular driveway improves traffic flow at events.
