Can you paint a brass fireplace screen?
November 10, 2013 in Design Dilemma
I have a see thru fireplace that has brass/mesh fireplace glass doors. In great condition, just hate the bright brass. Can this be painted black?
Not sure if any paint will adhere to the smooth brass plated surface. Any other suggestions?

Yes, you can paint the brass screen. There are special paints that can withstand high heat. Home Depot, Lowes or Ace Hardware paint dept. can direct you.

We painted our too-bright brass fireplace screen! My husband bought matte black paint at the auto supply place - he said it is used usually for painting exhaust manifolds, high temp stuff. Worked great!
