Pony wall or railing in entry of bilevel
November 10, 2013 in Design Dilemma
Renovating entry which had a pony wall with very ugly 1970 spindles attached to the end piece. Can't decide on if we should just extend pony wall to fill space of old spindles or do wrought iron or something similar. My only concern is I move my furniture a lot! Only leaves 2 solid walls to put furniture on. What are people with bilevel house doing?

Close the pony wall if you don't like open concept layouts.

It all depends on how open you want your living area to be. I have a bi level home with an iron railing that I just removed to install HW floors and am trying to figure out what to put back since it feels so nice and open. As for rearranging furniture, furniture can go against a railing, just get creative. :)
I'll try to post some pics once I have things figured out.

Pony wall so you can use space.

I think we decided to use the pony wall. Reasons are: gives me a third wall for TV unit or couch. We live in Southern Alberta Canada. It gets "cold" in winter so draft will be a problem.
If I wasn't a chronic furniture mover the railing would work
Here's a pic of rail I had thought about. A little sad:(
