Appropriate House Number Sizes
November 11, 2013 in Design Dilemma
After having all trim repainted it's time to finish up the little details. In the rear of our home we had 5" black floating mount house numbers installed above the garage door. They look great. We liked the floating numbers so much we would like to use that color and stle above the front door. One issue, size. The old numbers were 4" high. The painter's opinion is that 5" numbers will be too large. Attached is a link to a previous Houzz discussion showing our front door & trim. The blank area above the door is 48" wide x 7.25" high.

Please give me your opinion about the most appropriate house number size.

Golden ratio is 1:1,6
So 4,5" numbers should be good. I guess half an inch less or more will be okay too, but one inch on both sides isn't much, so the painter's got a point too.
Guess my answer didn't make it easier, but I hope it will help you decide.
